Some people think keeping their hands smooth and nails trimmed is a lot of work, when in fact, it’s not. A simple lotion applied daily or trimming nails back once a week doesn’t take much time or effort. But sometimes, that isn’t quite enough. Sometimes we run into problem areas. Here are some common manicure problems, and their solutions.

If your nails keep splitting, it could be because you’re lacking protein. Try adding foods like cucumbers or nuts to your diet. Vitamin A and gelatin are essential for nail strength. Vitamin A is found in carrots, liver and peas. Gelatin can be found in Jell-o.

Sometimes we notice a strange yellow tinge to our nails. Don’t panic! It can be something as simple as staining from nail polish. If that’s the case, you can use a polish remover with lemon juice. It bleaches the color out. If that doesn’t work, it may be a fungus. This can be cured by using an over the counter cream, or even asking your doctor what he or she recommends.

If you notice frequent hang nails, try using a good moisturizing hand lotion. Hang nails often stem from dry nails, but can also result from chewing, or biting your nails. If you’re a biter, you may want to consider trying some of the nail polish that has an ingredient that makes your nails taste bitter. It will definitely deter you from putting your nails in your mouth. Yuck!

When you are removing several layers of polish, use a cotton ball that has been moistened with nail polish remover. They work better than tissues, as they hold a lot of remover, and are small and easy to maneuver.

Place the cotton on your nail, and hold it there for a few seconds. It will soften the layers of old polish, so it won’t take much effort swiping it off.

When you polish your nails, you want to steer clear of chipping for as long as you can. I know it is next to impossible to avoid. But if you apply your topcoat under the free edge, and across the tip as well, your polish will be extra protected.

Set up a soak for your hands. Use your favorite bath moisturizer in a small bowl filled with warm water. Don’t get it too hot, though. It will dry your hands and nails, and that defeats the purpose! Soak each hand for a few minutes, massaging your nails and cuticles, then gently dry with a soft towel. Now would be a good time for some wonderful lotion.

Oh no! You snagged your nail, and guess who doesn’t have a nail file? Don’t sweat it! Use the striker from any matchbook for a quick fix! And keeping a file in your car isn’t a bad idea, either.

If you accidentally get polish on your cuticle, or anywhere else for that matter, it’s OK. If you are pressed for time, dipping a cotton swab in polish remover, and swiping it away will work. But if you are just lounging at home, chill out! Polish will wash off the next time you wash your hands, or do a sink load of dishes.

Don’t have any of those fancy tip guides for a French manicure? Use transparent tape. It works just as well, and since most of us have some anyway, it will save some money. And who doesn’t want to do that, right?

We should ensure that we are able to keep away the negative factors from our life, and that we are able to make the correct choices without putting risks on our happiness. It is essential that we continue to make things work out for us and that we are able to stay happy.

4. Being healthy is the fourth thing that we need to do to ensure that we are happy. We need to make good health choices so that we are able to stay happy and healthy no matter what we do. We need to continue to eat the right way and to think about the choices that we make for our body. We need to keep ourselves from anything that will make us unhealthy and sick.  We have to keep the negative things out of our body and also stay in good mental health so that we are able to be emotionally and physically happy as well.

5. Lastly we need to keep the good feelings in our hearts. We have to be able to keep these good feelings in our mind so that we can give back to others. We need to be pleasant and to try and be happy.  The more pleasant that we are will mean that we will be able to stay happier as well as make others happy too. Clear Up Your Blemish Prone Skin

Not Scrubbing, Gently Washing Instead.

Scrubbing your face isn’t going to get rid of blemishes if you’re prone to acne. In fact, if you rub your skin too roughly, it’s more likely to stir up more blemishes and aggravate ones you already have. That makes it important to clean your face gently.

When you wash your face gently, you’ll avoid irritation that will make acne worse. The best idea is to not even use a washcloth. It’s better to just splash some water on your face, then lather up your hands with the mild cleansing wash or mild soap. 

Once you’ve washed your face, use a clean washcloth to gently pat the water off the skin until it’s dry.

Benzoyl Peroxide Best Blemish Fighter.

After your skin is completely dry, then use an over-the-counter medication with benzoyl peroxide. This is definitely the best non-prescription medication you can use to control blemishes. Peroxide has been used to cleanse skin a long time, and benzoyl peroxide is also a mild drying agent.

Use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide as it has been shown to be just as effective as 5% or 10%, but much less irritating. It’s counter productive to irritate your skin and make acne worse instead of better.

Starting with a small amount of medication is important. It’s a drying agent and can cause redness and itchiness, so don’t slather on a bunch right from the beginning. For starters, just enough medication to very lightly cover your skin the first time, then gradually increase the amount you’re using. Within a couple of weeks you should be slathering a good coating of medication on your skin.

Make certain you stay away from the tender skin under your eyes. It’s not prone to break-outs anyway, and the skin there is thinner and more easier irritated that the rest of the skin on your face.

Use Moisturizer.

Because benzoyl peroxide dries out your skin, it’s important to apply moisturizer. Once the medicine has soaked in and your skin is completely dry, then lightly apply moisturizer to your face. Give the moisturizer time to dry, and if you skin still appears dry or flaky, add some more.

Right from the start, be sure to apply the moisturizer after using the benzoyl peroxide. This will keep your skin from drying out too much.

Does Your Diet Matter?

It’s an on and off thing with the scientific community as to whether diet has any effect on acne. Considering too much iodine will aggravate blemishes, don’t go overboard with the salt shaker if you’re using iodized salt, or eat too many iodine rich foods like clams, crabs or other shellfish.

Don’t pay attention to scientific theories, however, and if you notice that your skin tends to break out more after eating certain foods, quit eating them. There are so many factors since body chemistry and the effects of foods and other substances on our skin is so complex, that scientists don’t always know the answer. (How many drugs have been okayed as safe, only to discover later they have bad side effects?)

Quick Help.

When you have a blemish and need help quick, try one of the following:

  • If you run out of benzoyl peroxide and have a blemish, try using a little calamine lotion. This absorbs the excess oil, getting rid of the blemish.
  • As soon as you’re done washing your face, use an ice cube for 60 seconds on any blemishes. The chill from the ice cube helps reduce the inflammation and make them less noticeable.
  • Do NOT squeeze! That may seem to make it heal more quickly, but will irritate the surrounding skin and may cause more blemishes.
  • Keep away from oil based make-up. An oil based make-up is especially bad for acne prone skin. Look for fragrance-free types of makeup if you wish to wear, the kind meant for people with sensitive skin.

It is fairly obvious that all causes of aging cannot be circumvented, but there are things that can be done to keep some of them at bay. Here, we are specifically concerned with the aging of your skin, which is the most visible form of aging.  The first aspect of aging to understand is that there are two types:  intrinsic and extrinsic.

Intrinsic Aging

Intrinsic aging is natural aging, and is largely genetic.  Starting when you are fairly young, normally in the early to mid 20s, intrinsic aging is typified by wrinkling, hair loss or graying of the hair, hollowing of cheeks and other areas where the fat underneath the skin that normally contributes to your physical appearance is lost, and also bone loss that causes your skin to sag due a gradual loss of the structure that sculpts your physical appearance.
